It’s always a joy to read something written by Wayne. He is most dedicated and brilliant and his passion for justice for the animals inspires me with every word. When I first got involved in animal rights I often said “ you don’t have to be vegan to care about animals’ rights.”

Mine is, "if not me, then who? SOMEBODY has to step-up!"

Alas, rights movements don't resolve themselves.

I agree with this direction. It takes it directly to the individual animal and is more inclusive. Terms to replace go vegan should be rescue!! Animal Rights and rescue is not a diet and the term vegan has become just that. It's not enough. Thank you, Wayne

As a vegan, I believe Wayne is correct.

I would add the vegan movement is much like the climate movement, in my opinion. The climate change/crisis/emergency has failed because it failed to focus on the love of the environment, and instead was based on fear of the disaster awaiting us. Anyone doubting the fear machine was called a climate deniar or a science deniar.

Teaching children to love being in nature makes us all want to protect it. It avoids using divisive language and fearful tactics. We use camping and hiking as a gateway to becoming an environmental protector.

The vegan movements transition to animal rescue, which focuses on loving animals, does not exclude people. We can rescue animals simply by not eating factory farmed meat which pollutes the environment, degrades the livelihood of farmers and workers, and above all, is cruel.

Thank you, Wayne! We started MFA here. SO VERY TIRED of the length of time it's taking to SAVE SUFFERING BEINGS!

I'm disabled, but ARA/ALF the way, and I'm willing to do whatever I can to help.

Really wanted to move to you when DxE offered activist housing, but had just started recovery/medical treatment from a nasty accident & me elder catfam (who are still with me) would have come along & I wondered how that would work with housemates.

Definitely hoping to join you now if you need someone with lots of AR experience and a willingness to learn. Certainly, I'm good in crowds and can be diplomatic, but "militant" is in my blood.

(From Wayne's team) Hi Karma. Thanks for wanting to get involved with the open rescue movement! Wayne's current work is with The Simple Heart Initiative. (He has not been involved in leadership decisions since 2019, and is no longer in DxE.) The Open Rescue Advocates Meeting for July is on July 30th at 5pm PT. This event is happening in San Francisco and on Zoom. Adam Durand will be speaking about being the first person in the US to go to jail for open rescue. If you are interested in becoming an Open Rescue Advocated and/or attending the meeting, then send an email to info@thesimpleheart.org.

Yes, I also noticed a decline in veganism but as an elderly vegetarian Brit living in the Mediterranean for the past 57 years I can honestly state that vegans in the UK have only themselves to blame. They insist on vegan food in places where it is not on offer, their protests are not always peaceful and they refuse to accept that being a vegan is a personal choice.

The fact that Beyond Meat et al are not doing well is a sad reflection on what you have stated. Italy has also banned the import and production of lab grown meat, the only country in the European Union to do so. Luckily it has many delicious meat free dishes.

You may ask why I am a veggie and not a vegan and perhaps my answer is another clue to the decline.

I eat eggs from chickens raised by a local woman who has a few in her garden. I occasionally have honey, produced by bees on Mount Etna and I eat some cheese because a) vegan cheese is unavailable where I live and b) because I tried it once and it tasted like nothing on earth - ghastly!

If vegans insist on being too strict and presumptuous with their diets, they will put the majority off even thinking about giving it a try.

You can make your own vegan ricotta with bio soia from Eurospin. It's simple. Plus there are tons of easy vegan cheese recipes on YouTube that don't need special equipment or ingredients.

Wow... this gives me hope. I have been puzzling over what is the best way to advocate. Trying different approaches, but this feels clear and empowering. Now we have to join together in open rescue. Thank you for all that you have done and are doing.
