Yes, I also noticed a decline in veganism but as an elderly vegetarian Brit living in the Mediterranean for the past 57 years I can honestly state that vegans in the UK have only themselves to blame. They insist on vegan food in places where it is not on offer, their protests are not always peaceful and they refuse to accept that being a vegan is a personal choice.

The fact that Beyond Meat et al are not doing well is a sad reflection on what you have stated. Italy has also banned the import and production of lab grown meat, the only country in the European Union to do so. Luckily it has many delicious meat free dishes.

You may ask why I am a veggie and not a vegan and perhaps my answer is another clue to the decline.

I eat eggs from chickens raised by a local woman who has a few in her garden. I occasionally have honey, produced by bees on Mount Etna and I eat some cheese because a) vegan cheese is unavailable where I live and b) because I tried it once and it tasted like nothing on earth - ghastly!

If vegans insist on being too strict and presumptuous with their diets, they will put the majority off even thinking about giving it a try.

You can make your own vegan ricotta with bio soia from Eurospin. It's simple. Plus there are tons of easy vegan cheese recipes on YouTube that don't need special equipment or ingredients.
