I actually had this conversation a few days ago with a co-worker who asked me why I did not give someone my honest feedback, and I answered that it was because this person is a kind of alpha-male dominant type who appreciates direct ballsy challenges, but that is not my style. I do not raise my voice unless I am riled up, and I just KNOW that the person would not give value to my message not for the content but the WAY it was presented, so I just did not bother. So for me, it is not fear of speaking my mind, but knowing beforehand that my presentation style would not make headway with a person who loves a figurative slap in the face.
