The people spoke and they, the jurors, are caring, kind, compassionate, and care about life. Politicians are corrupted by money. This is most like why it's so hard do figure out how to become a politician.

So important: "By the end, all the jurors did not just sympathize with our legal argument. They sympathized with the animals, too. Indeed, when we brought them to meet Lily and Lizzie this past weekend, many were near tears." Yes, arousing love, caring, empathy are essential. That was core also in the second most popular book in the 19th century (second only to the Bible): Harriet Beecher Stowe's Uncle Tom's Cabin, an extremely powerful anti-slavery novel.
