God I felt that so much. The lack of respect people have drains me of my empathy. Even Gary Yourofsky had to stop because of this...Remember, this is a marathon not a sprint! I have always had empathy Dani, I am tired of humans torturing animals, they simply do not care, this is what I am really tired of: not caring. I was posting comments because 3 horses were shot dead in Liverpool, at Aintree, people are laughing at me because I care, they are laughing because it is animals. I am tired of people like that, they are everywhere on the planet. Thank you Dani.
Taking action - this is so hard for so many people. It's where so many people stall. My hope is that in the future more people will start to understand what animals go through, suffering in captivity and despair and will realize that compassion is key.
I want so badly for so many people to read this. I shared, but it's not enough. This is book material, or at least I hope! I have to say, one thing that both trials/acquittals have in common is YOU (as an attorney). I've watched your in action. I know that co-counsel has been excellent. But maybe others are like me and wonder what the outcome would be for us if we didn't have you as our defense attorney. I know that's what the summit in Denver was about so it's only a matter of time before there's a small army of highly qualified animal rights litigators. But they will not be you - your personal experience and compassion and incredibly sharp mental abilities make you a very effective presenter and persuader. You emanate trustworthiness because you've been in the trenches, and you speak the truth. People are pretty good a detecting bullshit and are fed up with corporate and government collusion and overreach. I'm still waiting to see what happens when you are not there to defend. Just being honest. It's a fear I personally grapple with. That and the Empire striking back, because we know they have and will. But I hear you loud and clear. You are not Atlas - it's not fair to ask you to be. The animals need more of us to take bigger risks.
As usual, great commentary. One line I quibble with is:
'Ordinary people, drawn randomly from the public, are much better decision-makers than elected officials or judges. They are immune from the regulatory capture and inertia that generally blocks progress on animal rights. '
Probably you meant:
'Ordinary people, drawn randomly from the public, are much better decision-makers [on animal rights] than elected officials or judges. They are immune from the regulatory capture and inertia that generally blocks progress on animal rights.'
OK, I focused too much on the earlier part of the sentence - you did say 'than elected officials or judges'. It's a BROAD statement which always scares me but I get it.
Juries definitely have less push and pull from external forces than elected officials. And judges are usually just a single person so a pool of folks is going to be a better decision maker by dint of hearing multiple voices.
I really hope so Wayne I am at the end so tired of fighting for them it is great time that people respect animals.
