She should have been acquitted and the “farm” should have been on trial. I hope they don’t sentence her to custodial time but allow her to stay at home where she can manage her diabetes.

No...You should realize your group is less than 1% of the population and move accordingly. Try winning hearts and minds maybe.

Perdue Petaluma Poultry slaughterhouse is the criminal for documented criminal abuse..

Rescue is not a crime, abuse is, even by corporations.

Zoe 1000% did the right thing and the worst part is that not all the animals could be rescued. The scope and depth of the corruption and greed exposed here is so, so disturbing. The justice system has shown itself to be biased and complicite.

Wayne,

You are doing it again! Mixing your crazy ass political views with reality.

Whether you have strong feelings about Epstein and Gaza or not the two issues have nothing to do with ANIMAL RIGHTS...you don't seem to get it.

Stop the political bullshit and get to raising concern and money to improve the lives of animals!

I told you recently that you may need to seek professional mental health care.

Fighting for animals is grueling and you appear to have lost your perspective.

I've provided time and tens of thousands of dollars to make a better life for the ANIMALS.

Your never ending left wing political monolog doesn't do anything for the ANIMALS.

Get your head together and re-enter the FIGHT!

YOU HAVE FORGOTTEN ABOUT ZOE and the other WARRIORS who are actually fighting for the ANIMALS.

Well said.

Trust - hard to gain, easy to lose. Our VP and trust are a dichotomy.

KQED's sentencing report ended with: 'Joaquin Phoenix, who rebuked the verdict and urged the Sonoma County district attorney to investigate allegations of animal cruelty at Petaluma Poultry.'...

“When individuals step in to save a life because the system has looked the other way, they should be supported — not prosecuted,” he said in a statement. “We have to decide who we are as a society: one that protects the vulnerable, or one that punishes those who try.”

Wayne is right that young people - and not just young people - are losing faith in our government to solve the problems of inequities and the lack of compassion that are all around us. There is a rising loss of confidence in the ability of democracies to get anything of importance done. Zoe's case, marginalized ethnicities, and environmental degradation are all branches of the same tree - dominance. Until we replace our current mode with one of compassion our society's goal will remain "We want more". If you ask a hundred people whether more is better than less, without specifying more or less of what, I believe most will reply "more". That is the problem.

Thank you! Somehow it's been a little tough to get her name onto people's radars. Just made a contribution to celebrate my 17th year vegan. I hope she, and most certainly dear Zoe of course, and the wonderfully dedicated author of this blog, draw strength from each other's work and can reach people's conscience. What's it going to take for there to be a Nuremburg for the animals?

I think you're looking at the fact that animal liberation is a clean break with the entire human past of predation on sentients. This break is arguably the only way for humans to gain standing with eachother decisively as thoroughly considerate, compassionate. It is thus arguably a doorway to a higher quality ecological practice of life. I think these are causes --- motives --- reasons --- that must be detailed and incorporated into legal discourse in favor of animal liberation. The shoddy lurching patchwork of lies, vice, privilege, abuse etc now on parade with Trump and his Big Oil/Big Tobacco crew has to be thrown into relief on the courtroom floor and on front pages.

Zoe's sentencing, as yours in Sonoma was, is an outcome of human entrenchment in the faunicultural livestocking side of the Neolithic Agricultural Revolution. This introduced severe pandemic pathogenic diseases to animals including humans. In recent years it subordinated biological tech to produce bovine nutritional additives that caused hormonal obesity in generations of consumers. I wonder if it is also causing infertility in humans as more info emerges about industrialized cruelty which you refer to here.

So, just a thought, I'd recommend supplementing your reading in religion with a focus on tracking the evolution of discourses about sentience and distribution of fairness across species, down to the present, in legal, government and religious and scientific arenas . . .

Also, could you explain, is an appeal on Zoe's sentence out of the question for some reason

Zoe's sentencing, as yours, also depended on Judge+Prosecutor exploitation of juror insecurity over the 'threat' to a jobs source. To me, for animal liberation to overcome workers' vulnerability in this area, animal liberation must promote a feasible plan of local wealth generation apart from corporate interests. This would entail a duly modified and 'frighteningly' large scale plan of county-scale permaculture with appropriate habitat restoration and a target of renewal and health through veganism. Talk of money shortage/jobs shortage is always parental/boss jargon disguising human alienation from ecology.

Specifically a veganism focussed and sanctuary focussed permaculture; and a liberation of county social identity via bioregionalism.

I guess you don't know much about the civil rights movement. It takes time. There are set backs, but we are moving in the right direction and the media is all over it. The farmers days are numbered. And there will be a reckoning for moral crimes. Nothing natural happening in factory farms and slaughterhouses .
