Sadly, many people on death row are just as innocent as the pups. One thing I've learned about the legal system is that those who are powerless (dogs are human beings) always get screwed. Many people on death row are just vulnerable, often mentally disabled people who were coerced into confession. In Chicago, Jon Birge did this sort of thing for years and was not caught for decades.

We also maintained a legal reserve that has now been significantly cut into, partly because the state unconstitutionally violated the defendants' speedy trial and due process rights in the last week. :(
