There is also such a thing as unwise appeasement of fanatical tyrants determined to murder you. Such fanatical tyrants have been ruling Iran for decades and appeasing them has proven to be very foolish. Iran's leaders have goals that will not be diverted or stopped by offering them flowers and love. They are part of a Muslim sect that seeks, as they have often said, "death to America and death to Israel. For those reasons they have been enriching uranium and were within weeks of developing nuclear bombs that could have wiped Israel off the map before they turned to Europe and the US. Obama and Biden chose to appease Iran for decades and gave them money and opportunity to continue with their nuclear program even as Iran negotiated just the opposite. In Iran's holy war against us infidels and other Muslim sects they do not agree with, they have lied about their uranium enrichment and have been able to build nuclear facilities 250 feet underground where they have felt secure they are beyond Israel's reach.

There comes a point in time when a decision must be made--do nothing and die or stop the aggressors determined to destroy your county. After months of negotiation and the Iranian leaders continuing to stall and lie as they did with Obama and Biden, Israel took action knowing full well that the antisemites around the world and intellectual appeasing Jews would criticize them. The courage of Netanyahu and Israel's IDF air force pilots is incomparable. This tiny nation that would fit inside Iran 72 times has taken control of the air and destroyed Iran's military capabilities. I hope that the US will end this war immediately by dropping bunker busters on the nuclear facilities deep under ground but even if we don't, I have faith that the Israelis will find another way to destroy them.

There is no positive end when nations appease fanatical dictators. We clearly saw that before WWII. Chamberlain, the appeaser, will go down in history as an idiot who lacked the courage to do what was necessary. Jews have been the victims of hate and violence for centuries. They have been the scapegoats for other people's failures. People love the Jews when they are killed and oppressed but as soon as they fight back and win, they are hated. As a Norwegian whose parents in Norway had to live under a brutal Nazi occupation and were rescued by courageous Canadians and Americans, I will always be grateful that those allied soldiers will willing to risk their lives so Norway and the rest of Europe would never live under Nazi rule. Long live Israel and long live brave soldiers everywhere who recognize the price of peace is the willingness to defend ourselves against the enemies of peace.

Appreciate you sharing this, Britt. And you are right that there are historical examples of appeasement that are extremely troubling!

My main thought is that many instances of the use of military force by the US in recent years don't seem to be examples of appeasement -- Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran don't appear to be serious threats to the US -- but examples of Adversarial Waves that have gotten out of control. But even in that position, I should remain humble.

Zionism is no Judaism.

We've watched Israel commit a Holocaust in Gaza, invade Lebanon, invade Syria and attack Iran during peace negotiations. Britt, no one is falling for your propaganda. Stop with the victim narrative and start the peace narrative✌️

This article pertains to any belief system. The narrower a belief system - the wave - the more dramatic its contradictions. There will will always be some who leap beyond the bounds of conditioning and the transience of situations. A dogmatic belief system, whether it be cultural religious or educational, cries out to be broken and broken it shall be. Each of us can show the courage to stand alone when need be.

Charismatic gambling with other lives is taken so seriously, is so attention-getting, it's the tv-dinner news message of the guys who stand between everyone and life, between everyone and "God". But saving animals' lives is going beyond that. It's getting at the ancient wrongful disposition that predisposes younger humans to waste lives. I think that's kind and that's stopping a trend of unkindness. Bye bye all that babaduk whodo hoodoo.

Hi Isabel, thank you for sharing this and of course sorry you are unsubscribing. I would to hear more about your experience with this piece -- and what felt like jew hate and Israel phobia. I don't want to have that impact on anyone!

You're a kind soul Wayne. But you'll never appease the war mongers. Please keep in mind this quote from Caitlin Johnstone about the holocaust in Gaza:

"If you've never been called an antisemite then you are way too chill about genocide."

I don't think it's that, please reconsider. Although not Jewish myself, I grew up in a town with a majority Jewish population, and subsequently almost all the people closest to me have been Jewish, and they call me the "honorary" Jew. I am super sensitive to any even perceived slight to Israel or the Jewish people. However, if you read everything Wayne has written since October 7, I think you will absolutely see that he does not have the characteristics you cite. He comes from a place of pacifism and kindness, and so of course is traumatized to see the wars raging in the ME. I am too, but I know that Israel has turned the other cheek for far too long, and enough is enough. The founding charter of Hamass (as I spell those monsters) explicitly calls for the annihilation of Israel and the slaughter of every Jew "behind every rock and tree where he hides." When they inflicted the carnage of Oct. 7, financed by Iran and Qatar, the writing was on the wall, and Israel knew they no longer had any choice. However, of course any and all wars are profoundly horrific, and it's easy to understand why a person of Wayne's sensitivities in particular would be traumatized and call for an end. The end WILL come, but it will be because Israel will put these masters of fundamental evil out of commission. Meanwhile, don't blame Wayne or others like him. It's understandable to call for peace....just not until we eliminate the ones whose very essence is the antithesis of anything remotely resembling peace.

Israel has turned the other cheek? What about the starvation and murder in Gaza? The invasion of the Westbank, Lebanon, Syria and the attack on Iran during peace negotiations? Sandra, you're blind to the horrors inflicted by the Zionists masquerading as Jews.

Calling everyone a jew hater doesn't work anymore. We can see the Holocaust in Gaza with our own eyes. Argue the merits instead of name calling.

I'm reminded of Isaiah 28:19, about a wave of storm "passing over" on a daily basis, wiping out an ill-conceived "covenant." In the case of the powdered wigs, it took some time, in which for men to learn to live with lice digging into their scalp. But it came down to having luck in a tawdry way with a concubine, to feel validated. Industry at scale and widespread availability of laundry services made for healthier living standards, but couldn't set us free from the challenge to be encountered in human sociality. So I'm guessing instrumental values and Descartian skepticism provided an out, for a while, 'till it comes back at us, like its doing. The Apocalypse may turn out to be an anti-climax after all.
