Wayne, you are a hero. Do not ever give up. Your work is important. My life turned around when I saw a video shown by an animal rights activist showing the beaks of chickens cut off. Most people DO NOT know what goes on in CAFO properties. I just learned about how pigs are modified to have too many piglets TODAY reading your story. I hope we are capable of changing as a species.

I love comeback stories. I love seeing how Lily could respond, did respond - and also that you took her to bed with you that first night, maybe made the difference between life and death for her. We got a dog when I was 7. Someone had kept him tied in the back yard in winter, until someone rescued him but could not keep him. By then the little dog was very sick. My father slept with that dog, shivering uncontrollably. We were only supposed to keep him for a day or so until a permanent home for him was found, but of course we kept him his whole life long.

Thank you very much, Wayne. I carry in my vehicle a couple of banners educating people about the pig crates, and more. It is the least I can do.

Beautiful and true words as always. I think we need to start acknowledging the underlying pain (for us human animals) of coming to terms with atrocities like speciesism and racism and helping people move through that pain. It’s a huge stumbling block to helping people move past their denial and complicity and become part of the solution. Just a thought! Love you Wayne.

That photo with mom pig laying with her babies sleeping on her just broke my heart. Is not fair at all how human treat these magical beings. Thank you for your amazing work and love for all Wayne <3

Very good piece Wayne. I clicked on your link too about the racism you experienced and the "whiteness" phenomonen. Funny I always thought Asians superior and educated in America. In the Midwest Wisconsin where I grew up you were labeled as smart. But there were not many Asian classmates. If you went up North all youd see was white ppl and you could feel the bias. But our school was mostly diverse whites, blacks, Latinos but there was the color cliques at times. I have noticed when traveling if youre white youre catered to and I see this in Mexico a lot. I think minorities rather than support each other were against each other too. I went to a Jamaican restaurant where the black patrons were getting free stuff when I was equally in the same situation. I went up to a Vietnamese food truck recently lol and everyone looked at me like get out of here you dont belong and menu not in English at all, but no ones gonna intimidate me, but the pictures didn't entice me so I left. I always thought Asian guys were hot, but they'd only date their "kind" or white ppl, same with white ppl. I like white boys, but the preference back home was blonde blue eyes which I get it. White girls are hot too. But I do blv its all a culture and systematic thing. My mom came from Mexico. My dad from Cuba. If you saw them now you'd think they were rednecks. My dad a trucker in flannel and hat typical Wisconsinite. My mom came legally, but because of luck and she hates as she says "wetbacks." She speaks and acts like all the conservative white people. I used to fight with her, but shes old now and I just ignore it. But my plight is if we can't even get along. How are we gonna save the animals.
